Mississippi Lineman Injured in Electrical Job Accident

WALNUT, MISSISSIPPI – Tippah Electric Power Association lineman Lonnie Smith, 46, who is also a first-term Ripley alderman, was severely injured while working on an electrical job Thursday afternoon.

Smith, who has been with TEPA for 15 years, was hurt after he came in contact with a live power line on County Road 125 about 2:30 p.m., authorities said.

Smith was transported to the Walnut Fire Department, then airlifted from there to the Regional Medical Center In Memphis by helicopter about mid-afternoon.
