Tree Trimmer in FL Fatally Electrocuted by Power Line

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA –  A yard maintenance worker trimming trees was fatally electrocuted Monday when his equipment hit a power line, a West Palm Beach Fire-Rescue spokesman said.

The man, whom neighbors identified as Pedro Ortiz, was killed as he worked on Aravale Road, about two blocks north of Belvedere Road between Olive Avenue and Flagler Drive.

About 2:20 p.m., rescue workers found the man in a tree, about 30 feet above ground. Power was cut to the area as firefighters, using ropes, got the man down in 10 minutes, but he was already dead, Battalion Chief Kevin Lewis said.

“Apparently what happened was the gentleman was hired as a contractor to do some tree trimming and accidentally was electrocuted by making contact with some wires that were nestled in between the trees,” police spokesman Chase Scott said.
