3 Electrocuted, 2 Injured in India in Tree Cutting Accident

HYDERABAD,INDIA –  Three persons died and two others received injuries after they came in contact with a live wire in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh today, police said. The incident occurred at Bopparajupalem village of Narayanavanam mandal when one Bujjaiah engaged four workers to cut branches of some trees at his agricultural field, they said. While cutting, one of the branches fell on the power line passing through the field which in turn fell on the workers resulting in the instantaneous death of N Subramanya, Kailash and Bhoom Reddy, a police officer investigating the case told PTI. Bujjaiah and another worker Mani were rushed to separate hospitals in Puttur and Tirupati with serious injuries, the police officer said. “Without taking permission from the power department, they were carrying out the work and got electrocuted in the process,” he said. In a similar incident, three linemen of Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL), who were engaged in restoration works of 11 kv power lines under Vadapalli substation of West Godavari district, were electrocuted yesterday, triggering protests.
