LA Truckdriver Killed in Electrical Accident When Truck Bed Strikes Power Line

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LOUISIANA – A Bogalusa dump truck drive was killed Wednesday morning while working at a construction site in Covington.

According to George Bonnett, spokesman for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, 49-year-old Joey Robins was delivering a load of sand at the Ochsner Boulevard Exten-sion Construction site at approximately 7:30 Wednesday morning.

After he dumped his load of sand, Robinson left the bed of his truck raised as he pulled forward.  The bed struck an overhead power line and “Fourth of July Fireworks erupted.”

In his attempt to exit the truck, which had caught fire, Robinson reportedly grabbed the door handle and jumped free of the truck.  When his feet struck the ground, the current ground on the ground and a complete circuit was formed. The current travelled through Robinson’s body.

A responding deputy attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but was unable to revive Robinson. Acadian Ambulance personnel transported him to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Robinson was driving a truck for Mingo Trucking, and the project he was working, Ochsner Boulevard Extension, will extend the boulevard all the way to Louisiana Highway 1085 (Bootlegger Road) when complete.
