Disney Facing Wrongful Death Lawsuit for Electrocution

WINTER PARK, FLORIDA – The family of a man killed two years ago is suing Disney and some of its partners.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that the estate of Douglas Howell filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the giant local company.

Howell was electrocuted two years ago at a substation switch near the Swan and Dolphin resort.

The lawsuit claims Howell’s employer, Reedy Creek Energy Services, decided not to turn off the switching unit where Howell was working, even though the hotel could have been powered by just one substation, instead of two.

The suit claims the decision created a risk of electrocution to employees.

The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $15,000. [Blogger note:  The “excess” part of the damages is key language here.  Wrongful Death lawsuits that have been filed related to electrical safety issues typically run in the millions with some settlements or rewards exceeding $10 million]
